On race day, when I have runners heading for the start line, - TopicsExpress

On race day, when I have runners heading for the start line, especially their first start line of a 5K, 10K or longer distances, the runs are not about me. My times will be long, my miles will be many. They are about them and the hard work they have put in to get to that finish line, but more importantly the trust they put in me to get them there. We run with the theory that No Man Is Left Behind, thanks to a Marine who came and ran with us one time and taught me that lesson early on in my coaching career. After 15 months of coaching, Ive learned a lot but the most important lesson is knowing what my runners need on any given day whether it be a pep talk, no talk, to be pushed harder, to ease back, to encourage them every second, minute and mile until their goals and dreams become a reality. Over 70 runners have entrusted me with this job so far. Today 33 of those runners took to the streets of Pittsburgh and I couldnt be PROUDER of what each of you have accomplished along the way. Whether you are still running with me or have moved onto other running groups, I remember the first 90 seconds. I remember the first mile. I remember the finishes and the sweat, tears aches, pains, laughs, hugs, smiles and high fives it took to get you there. For all of this, I want to say THANK YOU to each and everyone of you! May this be only the beginning of many more miles for each of you!
