On television, there have been many shows hosted by doctors. Recently, Dr. Oz and The Doctors have ruled the airwaves with their brand of entertainment and information. Morning television has their experts that they bring in to explain the latest trends and news to their audience but it always leads to that big question. Who can you trust with your health? Who is truly disseminating the facts from the flash and telling the truth? Just recently, Dr. Oz has been scolded for perpetuating diet myths by the senate. He was brought to face the music in regards to what one senator called it the Dr. Oz Effect. He has been known to discuss at great lengths questionable products which boosts sales and drives scam artists to pop up overnight. These scam artists prey on desperate people who want to lose weight quickly and are willing to ingest these questionable and at times dangerous products. The senators grilled Dr. Oz about why he never promotes the most commonly agreed on approach to weight loss, careful eating and exercise. Oz said the products give people hope to keep trying to lose weight. It is important to understand that a television show such as Dr. Oz relies heavily on ratings, entertainment and commercials dollars. The show needs to make its advertisers happy and to create an excitement that treads the line between entertainment and information. With the flashy graphics, the big music and props, the show continues to evolve into an almost entertainment show with some medical information. They need to keep their advertisers happy with great ratings and they need to keep their audience excited with bells and whistles. The Ask Dr. Nandi Show does not believe in bells, whistles, big props and fancy graphics. The Ask Dr. Nandi Show believes in the people we talk to, we talk with and those we talk about.
