On that September day Mom was still living in England. She was driving her combine Harvester in a field of beans in a village called Challock in Kent. She got a call from a friend who told her about the first tower. Mom already had close friends living and working in Manhattan and the phone lines were blocked for hours. Eventually she got through and heard they were safe, but others they knew were not. By that time both towers were down and lower Manhattan was covered in a veil of ghostly ashes. She went to a friends home to watch the news and together they saw what had happened that morning. Every decent person in the world was stunned to silence. And then, as everyone began to gather their senses, people wanted to go down there to see what they could do. Mostly, among the devastation and the ashes, the decent people in the rest of the world just wanted to put a hand on Americas shoulder and say dont give up, you still have us We stand united. This song recounts much of the emotions of that day. Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush-Dont give up
