On the 10th May Brandeston Hall were represented at the IAPS National Swimming Championships for the second year running. In order for our swimmers to reach the finals they firstly competed in the regional round at Bishops Stortford, in February, and had to post a time that was one of the sixteen fastest nationally, for an individual event and 12th fastest for a relay event. From this Brandeston Hall successfully had four individual swimmers qualify and two relay team’s qualified. The event got off to an excellent start with Freddie Heldreich swimming the U12 25m Butterfly in a time of 16.90 seconds which was a personal best. This was quicker than his qualifying time by 0.31 seconds and he placed 13th overall. After the lunch interval it was the chance for the U13 girls relay team, to put last year’s finals to the back of their mind after what happened last year, and they did this in fine fashion by swimming 1.01:28 seconds, for the 4 X 25m freestyle relay, which was 2.51 seconds quicker than their regional time and a Personal Best. Their time for the 4 X 25m Medley relay was 1.11:25, another personal best for the team by a staggering 2.54 seconds. The Under 13 relay team comprised of Lottie Summers, Liberty Salsby, Rose Winter and Els Cogdell. This is a great achievement as three of the girls were at the England National Schools Hockey Championship the day before. It was then Poppy Mayall’s turn to shine and although she was struggling with a thigh injury, she gave it her all in the U12 25m Butterfly posting a time of 16.55 seconds, placing her 13th overall, which again was a magnificent time, considering her injury and her participation in the National Schools Hockey Finals the day before. Lottie Summers then had to take to the pool again, to swim in the U13s 50m Backstroke. Lottie swam her heart out and managed a personal best time by 0.46 to placing her 13th overall with a time of 39.17 seconds. Finally at the end of a long day for all Els Cogdell swam in the U13s 50m Freestyle. She went on to swim a personal best time by 0.37 seconds and unfortunately lost out on a place in the overall finals by 0.22 seconds. Finishing 9th overall with a time of 32.05 seconds. I would like to personally thank all the pupils for their time and effort in the training sessions, which has shown in their results. I would especially like to thank their parents for the time they have committed, to not only get their children to the training sessions, but also the effort to get them to the national finals.
