On the 40th anniversary of the irregular Ordinations of 11 women to the Priesthood of the Episcopal Church in Philadelphia, it is worth noting that on May 10, 1977 The Rev Carol Anderson,then a priest at St James Church, NYC, was invited to Preach and Preside at a Holy Eucharist at St Andrews Church. This was, at the time, unheard of in the Diocese of Albany. From the worship folder for that service: ...the members of this parish have studied the question of the ordination of women to the priesthood and the Episcopate(Bishops) for a number of years. .. we recognize that there is a widespread interest in the ordination of women both inside and outside the Episcopal Church. ... St Andrews had been on the forefront of advocating for the ordination of women and inclusion of women in the Church overall..
