On the 6th of November, the second day of the LEAD training took place in Brussels. The training is facilitated by the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES) for the 22 Electoral Management Bodies (EMBs) coming from the French-speaking countries members of the Réseau des Compétences Electorales Francophones (RECEF, recef.org). Supported by the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF,francophonie.org), this training is organized in partnership with the Ecole de Formation Electorale en Afrique Centrale (EFEAC, efeac.org). During the second day, the participants were presented an overview of the electoral conflicts and the electoral violence in Africa. The participants were introduced to the concept of electoral cycle and its phases. Furthermore, they learned about methods to prevent electoral conflicts and ways to avoid electoral violence. EMBs representatives from Belgium, Benin, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinée, Madagascar, Mali, Québec, DRC, Senegal, Central African Republic, Togo and Comoros have gathered to attend the different activities managed by ECES and EFEAC teams of expert. The 3 days seminar is based on the methodology of the Leadership and Conflict Management Skills for Electoral Stakeholders (LEAD) training and has been customized specifically for the senior staff of the EMBs of RECEF. The main objective of this seminar is to increase the ways in which the electoral managers can prevent or mitigate violence and electoral related conflicts through leadership and conflict management skills.
