On the Completion of Environmental Study Report for LaSalle Park - TopicsExpress

On the Completion of Environmental Study Report for LaSalle Park Marina Wave Break STATEMENT The LaSalle Park Marina Association is extremely pleased to see the EA ESR tabled with findings that the preferred alternative is a permanent wavebreaker at LaSalle Park Marina – being an entirely offshore, Bioengineered Permanent Fish & Wildlife Habitat Rock Island Wavebreak. Burlington’s much needed Safe Harbour – the Report is actually quite an interesting read. We are even more pleased that the Environmental Assessment’s findings addresses in detail concerns raised about the trumpeter swans and maps out a direction forward covering many areas. LPMA look forward to working productively with the Trumpeter Swan Group, as we do with many partners and stakeholders – to achieve the greater good. There is room for all when this project is completed. Creating 440 metres, (880 metres in circumference) of new natural feeding grounds for waterbirds along the Habitat Rock Island water’s edge offshore, where none exists today, while providing safe shelter from waves and storms. With respect to the Marina’s need to expand to 320 slips +20 transient slips, that is to create the economies of scale necessary to handle the debenture debt service boaters at LPMA will incur, without exposing the City ratepayers to any cost or risk. The market demand is there, we know it and the Environmental Assessment Study confirms it. The volunteer based, not for profit LPMA will be able to handle the debt service commitments required. The proposed project is a wonderful opportunity to bring forth an all weather Safe Harbour – bringing a showpiece to Burlington – for all to be proud. We seek Safe Harbour.
