On the Internet, data and identity thieves, hackers, spies, criminals, and even terrorists / extremists can disguise themselves and make / fake themselves your friends. They can then fool you and somehow trick you into handing personal information to them, which they can use for evil intents and purposes. Facebook and all social networks now are no longer places where mere online friendship will mean mutual trust. Governments, companies, and individuals will lie on the Web — crass attention-seeking socialites, B-listers, gossip people included; and nobody, unfortunately, is excluded from this. I will go forward with one of the largest revamps on my Internet identity and presence with effect from 01 January 2015. This is in light of the threat of the Internet being itself put at threat, especially in the wake of Cablegate, Prism, Heartbleed, and many other serious attacks. I will come out with personal policies regarding anything Internet-related (especially social media related). I have to err on the more conservative side because of the negative elements of the Internet have made this the perfect case of an armed piranha ruining the whole fish tank for all fish. As a result there will be a radical change in the composition of who is on which social network. If you have known me for a few years (especially if we went to school together), and if we interact a lot, I can safely say that nothing will change for you. If however I am convinced that you are here not just for the talk, and have more sinister motives, then action will be taken. The same will apply on my domain website and all sites I own or operate. If we leave the Internet as is and allow the hackers, the spies, the criminals, the terrorists, and the extremists to go astray, we will only be doing ourselves and the wider world a disservice.
