On the Metro: Unexpected Snow? Got me thinking. Driving to the Metro this morning was a bit of a problem. Accidents galore. The radio sputtered out news of similar events happening all over the city. It all sounded dire. Tragic. The feeling was hopelessness. All of this happenstance occurred after days of gleeful weather people on TV giving smiling warnings of the impending freezing temperatures coupled with moist air. Were we not entertained? Or have we become so complacent in our mindsets than nothing can happen to us, since nothing has for quite some time? So, bounding out in the slick crystals, heeding no distance between cars in a cautious manner was not part of the plan. No... Work awaits. Work, that hellish place where we all seem to want to rush toward, regardless of hazards. Ironic, huh? Nevertheless, traffic piled up. Tempers flared. Frustrations set in after too many commercials about Southwest Airlines flying to warm sands and surf of Aruba. Until finally, the garage of the Metro became a reality, and drones wearing heaps of wool and polyester sauntered slowly, zombie -like through the still falling glistens. Tip toeing and foot sliding to avoid broken elbows and whatnot. The thing is, people act as if this were an anomaly of epic proportions. As if snow never appeared before. As if, adverse conditions had never once befallen us. Leaving a look on faces if blankness, puzzlement and an enigma of thoughts. Its a funny scene of fish out of water, mouths open and aghast for air in the form of a sunny day. As if... Remember, all of this happenstance occurred after days of gleeful weather people on TV giving smiling warnings of the impending freezing temperatures couples with moist air. Were we not entertained? Or do we take for granted, that we are not in control? I think the latter. Then I think, Aruba sounds pretty good right about now.
