On the Question of the Veil in Egypt ( 2-4 ) The Islamists, since old times, targeted women as they considered them, by tradition, the origin of all evil, and the fabricated hadiths on that subject. The first thing the guide of the Muslim Brotherhood asked Nasser to do is to order every woman to wear TAR7A طرحة when going out. Nasser saw it as a way to influence society in a way to take power, and later hanged four of the group and put thousands in prison. The same thing happened in 1965 with Sayed Qutb. After the defeat of 1967, most Egyptians awoke to a terrible reality, losing faith in all values and hopes they lived upon for many years. Islamists seized the opportunity to propagate that the defeat was a result of Gods wrath for not following His orders and for the prosecution and torture of the people of Islam. The government competed with this trend by many rumors about people who had religious visions of imminent victory, by showing more of Nasser and company praying, and culminating in using the apparition of the Virgin Mary in Zeitoun Church to its benefit. In the meantime, Nassers regime violently crushed students and workers protests against the light verdicts against the officers responsible for the defeat, and asking for freedom and democracy. With the judicial massacre, the regime uncovered its ugly face, and the people lost all confidence as they see all the structure built since 1952 falling apart. Everyone looked for his or her own way of redemption: many engaged in their own interests, many went to work in rich Arab states (bringing back the Wahabi thought), many emigrated, and those who could not do any of those things turned to religion and fell under the spell of the Islamists. Then, mass brainwashing followed in the seventies…
