On the agenda for the work study on Monday night is a proposed partnership to build the bridge for that the HOA and MUD want in Cinco. I know this is going to be a contoversial topic for many of us. First, kuddos to the school board for listening to the community members that have come and spoken about this and I appreciate that they are discussing this. But, I personally think this is a bad idea. I am all for the safety of the kids, but the precedence this sets is just bad. I, as a tax payer in Harris County, in no way think that my Katy ISD school taxes should pay something NOT on school district land that benefits a few students. If we do this, then I have a LONG list of items in every county that I feel Katy ISD might have to now pay for. That is not how my tax dollors should be spent. Atleast my KISD taxes. If this is a hazardous route that kids are taking then put them on a bus. But this route existed BEFORE buses were taken away. Kids have walked that path for years even before the district took away buses. If we do THIS project, then I am greatly concerned about where this stops. We are about to grow into the north and into Harris county. A part of our district that has drainage issues. I hope the HOAs and MUDs and developers and counties strongly consider safe walk paths in these communities. But I in no way think Katy ISD should foot the bill for this, because then where does it stop. As an HOA president whose small HOA had to spend about $30k for sidewalks directly because of the buses, I suppose maybe I should get ready to get a check to be reimbursed by the school district for those property improvements and every other HOA and MUD should get in line too. Where does it end and to the tune of HOW MUCH MONEY? So lets have the discussion. Im all for the discussion and am glad its being discussed. But what do you all think?
