On the anniversary of the Normandy Invasion, I took time to read - TopicsExpress

On the anniversary of the Normandy Invasion, I took time to read the wiki article about the whole thing. One interesting aspect of it that I didnt know about was the importance of the French resistance groups operating in France among the German occupation. The things they did and how they communicated seem like something straight out of a movie: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D-day#Coordination_with_the_French_Resistance To summarize it: British special forces used the French BBC broadcasting to send hidden coded messages to to the country through random reciting of poetry that was decoded. It communicated the secret plan, which was for the resistance to prime the whole area for an attack through secretly destroying rail roads and electrical lines. During the invasion they secured Allied paratrooper drop zones, and after they housed and cared for the surviving soldiers until they could be shipped home. I love stories about people with very little resources making a huge impact.
