On the auspicious day of Ganesh Chaturti a Special Cover along with a post mark on 81st Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal (LRSGM*) was issued by “Department of Post, India, Maharshtra Circle” along with the help of The Philatelic Society of India (PSI*). The cover carries the image of the famous Lord Ganesha of Lalbaug, Mumbai which is popularly known as “LALBAUGCHA RAJA” and also a “ 1kt Gold Ganesha Emblem” is affixed on it. Ganesha also spelled Ganesh, and also known as Ganapati and Vinayaka, is a widely worshipped deity in Hindus. Devotion to Ganesha is widely diffused and extends to Jains, Buddhists, and beyond India. It is widely revered as the remover of obstacles & the god of beginnings; he is honoured at the start of rituals and ceremonies It is the most famous Sarvajanik Ganapati kept at Lalbaug, a prominent locality in Mumbai during Ganesh Chaturti festival. The idol is kept for public display for Eleven days thereafter it is immersed on the auspicious day of Anant Chaturdashi. It is believed that this Idol of Lord Ganesha is Navsacha Ganpati (which means the one who fulfills all wishes) and hence over 1.5 million people visit this Ganesh Pandal daily during the 10 day Ganesha festival. Lalbaugcha Raja is truly a King in all respects and it pays to seek his audience. A mere glance of the deity which is labeled as mukh darshantakes about four to five hours wait in the queue during weekdays and eight to nine hours during weekends. What’s more, Lalbaugcha Raja is so popular that you might just spot many celebrities here! This unveiling of Lalbaugcha Raja is covered every year by all national and regional channels. The Release Function was at the Lalbaugcha Raja Pandal near the Idol at 10.00 am. Shri. Harish Aggarwal PMG Mumbai Region, Shri. Sudhir Salvi Secretary LRSGM*, Shri. Surendra Kotadia HT PSI*, Shri. Kapil Gogri GCM PSI*, Shri. Prashant Mavani President JULRA & other dignitaries from the postal department were also present. The cover is design by Shri. Kapil Gogri on behalf of the LRSGM* & PSI*.
