On the authority of Muadz bin Jabal radiyallahu anhu, he said, O The Messenger of Allah, tell me some behaviours that can lead me to go to the paradise and stay me away from the hell. He (The Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said, You have asked something that is big (important), but it is considered as simple for those whom Allah have been given at ease, (the deeds are): believe in Allah and not worship others than Allah, perform salah, pay zakah, fast during ramadan, and perform hajj. He then said, Do you want me to tell you the doors to goodness? Fasting is your amorour, donation will eliminate your sin as water will extinguish the fire, and the salah of a person in the middle of the night. He (The Prophet) then recite one verse, Their sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend (in charity in Allahs Cause) out of what We have bestowed on them. No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy as a reward for what they used to do. (QS. As-Sajdah: 16-17) And then he (the prophet) said, Do you want me to tell you the principle of all matters, the pillars and the peak? I said, Surely, O The Prophet of Allah. He said, The principle of all cases is Islam, the pillar is salah and the peak is jihad. He then asked, Do you want me to tell you (if you perform it) you will own all of it? I said, Of course o the messenger of Allah. Therefore, The Messenger of Allah held his mouth and said, Protect this (the prophet pointed the mouth) I said, O The Messenger of Allah, are we punished upon something that we talk about? He said, Of course! Has someone has been laid out in the hell due to their sayings? (Narrated by At-Turmudzi and he said, The hadith is considered as hasan sahih.)
