On the beaches of Normandy 70 years ago, America and its allies - TopicsExpress

On the beaches of Normandy 70 years ago, America and its allies boldly launched the largest seaborne invasion in history. They knew it would be a bloody endeavor, but they also knew they could conduct the operation virtually unchecked by German airpower. In a letter to General Hap Arnold after the invasion, General Omar Bradley said, I cannot say too much for the very close cooperation we have had between Air and Ground. In my opinion, our close cooperation is better than the Germans ever had in their best days. President Franklin Roosevelt said, “Hitler built a fortress around Europe, but he forgot to put a roof on it.” Americas Airmen should take pride in that legacy as we remember the heroes of D-Day. To that Greatest Generation, we thank you for risking it all to preserve the freedom we enjoy today. r/mark
