On the black-lacquered Howard baby grand, where sheet music was - TopicsExpress

On the black-lacquered Howard baby grand, where sheet music was usually propped sit two books, Art and Love, An Illustrated Anthology of Love Poetry. Vanity Fair, Photographs of an Age, 1914-1936, with a photo of Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks on the cover. I figured they were romantic. I figured we were romantic too, when we, the mature and seasoned English-teaching kind of couple, picked out two used books from the tiny shop at Scripps Library. It was our first afternoon at the library together. Mine was Chance by Conrad, and hers was The Humbling by Roth. The little grey-haired lady that sat behind the desk was reading, but with ear buds and wires hanging down across her chest. They must have been on loud because when she took them off I could hear Clocks by Coldplay, playing faintly, but definitely, no doubt about it. We were racing clocks everywhere lately, especially before Chanukah and Christmas. At Costco one night we were the last ones in, and the last ones out. Barb sent them back for the proper sized coats and pajamas...three times. At Barnes and Noble a few nights later she was the last one out again, and the employees let out a whoop and a holler as they locked the door behind her. I took a picture! I dont mind that shes particular. She knows what she wants and will accept nothing less. That applies to dry goods, various and sundry items, particular kinds of music and films...and me. And dont I love it! youtu.be/vG5FgBWlABE
