On the call for Mr President, G E Jonathan to Resign or be - TopicsExpress

On the call for Mr President, G E Jonathan to Resign or be Impeached: My take on this, and this is irrespective of political, ethnic or religious considerations, is that the resignation or impeachment of Mr Jonathan will NOT solve the problem of Nigeria. I do NOT support the call for his resignation. Apart from throwing the country into chaos and possible anarchy, and even probably another civil war, the enemies of Nigeria and progress would have won. At any rate, the whole world will not sit back and watch Nigeria disintegrate. It is not in anybodys interest - American, British, European, Chinese or South African, included. Yes, you better believe it. And I am not try to overplay the importance attached to Nigeria, as implausible as it may sound to cynics, by the comity of nations in this planet called Earth. If it comes to that, then the whole of the Senate and the House of Representatives should resign. Then, the State Governors with the billions of naira they are supposed to use as Security Votes, must also quit. We know the above scenario is not plausible not to talk of feasible or possible. So let us look elsewhere. Let us find the solution elsewhere. Much as we will go into self-denial, the problem of Nigeria in general, lay with ourselves - the society, the people of this country. We really have to take a very deep and long look at our culture, moral and political values and exorcise the bad ones out and keep the good ones, then work on those good ones either to support the democracy as we have it, or create a new form of government that will benefit us. The African/Nigerian is too selfish, too greedy, too insensitive, too corrupt, too self-centered, too self-serving, too individualistic, too ethnic-bound, too primordial and crawls back into the Dark Ages, to be compassionate and ready to alleviate the plight of their weaker brothers and sisters. Secondly, religion, calling on God instead of using our brains, hands, feet and available resources to make it happen for ourselves is another problem. Heaven helps those who help themselves. Manna, they say, will not fall from heaven. God will ONLY aid us when He sees we are working towards making things change. Now ask yourself: which ilk of people or group will take over from Mr Jonathan? No, Sirs/Madams, the resignation or impeachment of Mr Jonathan will make matters worse. Do you want chaos, anarchy and disintegration? If you are outside Nigeria, maybe, but if you live there, or you happen to be trapped there when and if it happens, it will not be pretty to watch or be within. More...........to come.
