On the eleventh Holy Night, January 3rd, that of the Bull region, we find ourselves with once more this question of above and below which in some form throughout all of these zodiacal starry homes we have the question, we have the choice in the earthly world as to which we place more importance upon: the earthly and transitory or the heavenly and that which is eternal. Knowing always there is a balance between both elements living within man in regards to how he meets his karma, by freedom and choice, or by bondage of necessity. What we choose in these moments speaks to whether or not we are becoming conscious of our eternal ongoing evolution and therefore recognize what the earthly has to do with the heavenly or we are not becoming conscious and only living for today which then the hammer of necessity of karma will bring to bear what are sleeping in regarding the earthly and heavenly relationship united in the human being. From the ancient of times we have the Sumerian myths and an ongoing revelation of mankind’s Fall and then his step by step towards his redemption which is the path to freedom, to the birth of his higher Ego. Always inherent in this question is the Soul and the Spirit, something that in the Council of 869 the Catholic Church brought forth a schism in the world regulating the Spirit to nonexistence by saying the Soul had some qualities of Spirit and was no longer to be considered as something separate from the soul: hence no Soul and Spirit only Soul with some spirit qualities. This is an understanding of the works of Rudolf Steiner whence the ongoing evolution of the Soul of Man Divine Sophia and the uniting with man through three evolutionary stages: Theosophia, Philosophia, Anthroposophia. Mankinds own ascent from the earthly to the heavenly world, from the Fall into Darkness, where no light resides, to that of transforming, piercing through the Dark with Light, a return from the Fall. Sergei Prokofieff shares: ‘It is well known that the Egyptian Goddess Isis is also connected with the sphere of the Moon. In the Mysteries of the ancient Egyptians her image arose out of the union in the lunar sphere of two cosmic streams coming from the heavenly regions of the Virgin and the Bull. If the influence of the Virgin prevailed, then in the image of Isis more emphasis was placed upon her connection with the World-Soul, the divine Sophia, and also upon her relationship with Horus, through whom she was connected with the world of men. But if on the other hand, the influence of the Bull prevailed – and in this case Isis was depicted with a bull’s horn on her head – more emphasis was placed upon her connection with the whole macrocosm; this indicated that, under the influence of the forces of the Bull, she finds fulfilment through the World Spirit and then streams upwards towards the Sun –god, Osiris. Osiris himself, although the cult in his honor arises in the epoch of the Bull (third cultural epoch), nevertheless receives through his connection with Christ (his image is a prophetic indication of the approach of Christ to the Earth) a relationship to the cosmic region of the Ram. And so this striving of Isis from the Bull to the Ram or, within the solar system, from the sphere of the Moon to that of the Sun, finds expression in the further metamorphosis of her outer appearance: between the two lunar bull’s horns there appears a disc of the Sun. This transformed image of Isis is a prophetic indication of the transition from the epoch of the Moon to that of the Sun or, in more occult language, from Lunar Logos to the Solar Logos which corresponds in the historical evolution of mankind to the transition from the third cultural epoch to the fourth.’ Rudolf Steiner shares that the region of the Bull has to do with Speech connected to future times when mankind will create out of the Word, the larynx as the new birthing organ of man, flesh turns back to Word. Rudolf Steiner shares: “…we must understand that the larynx in its full transformation, and when man has become chaste again, the larynx will turn again to the spiritual Sun. The calyx of the flower developed into a flesh and blood form filled with passions; and the larynx will become a pure, chaste chalice, to be fructified by the Spirit, to be offered to the Holy Lance of love. This is also the symbol of the Holy Grail, its high ideal.”
