On the eve of my birthday, as a young, old man of 62, today, I feel truly sorry for our children as I wonder where the Nigeria of our childhood, our beloved paradise of the 50s and early/mid 60s, has gone! Im really wondering whether Nigerians and humanity are not better off without religion, in a world where the religious have continued to spell Gods holy name backwards -- from God, to Dog -- judging by their actions, or inactions. If the Supreme Being is indeed one, as we all claim, how does it matter so much as to draw the blood of our neighbour, what name we individually choose to call Him? Does it make any sense that any mere mortal is fighting FOR the Supreme Being? From what we are all witnessing today, religion continues to cause a lot, if not most of humanitys problems -- religion appears to have failed humanity! The more religious we get, the more vicious and ferocious, the divisions and the wars and the more, the human costs and suffering. The more we trust the so-called custodians of the various religions, the so-called men of God; the priests and pasotrs, the imams and sheikhs, and so on, the more they lie and deceive and mislead their trusting followers. So, I ask again, what is the whole point of all the religiousness?
