On the eve of my grandpas passing we gathered as a family at church yesterday for his Mass of Intention. As they spoke his name during the prayer of intention, those 3 seconds seemed like an eternity. It took me back 362 days prior as the priest spoke in that very same church at his funeral service. A wave of emotions came over me. Memories rushed in from all directions. Today marks the last day that my grandpa lived in his home here on earth. The last day that the familiar smells that resonated with my grandpa where there. The home that he opened up to everyone. Tonight marks the final night I spent with my grandpa. My mom called and I felt such sadness and a pain in my heart for my mom, my aunts/uncles , cousins and all of family. The glue of our family would soon slip away to be forever pain free and rejoice with my grandma. He left so many beautiful memories and instilled so many values in us. He built along with my grandma an amazingly strong foundation for our family to continue to build on. Being with my family yesterday and hearing laughter and watching all the kiddos run around brought such happiness. Using 1 cake and singing happy birthday separately to 3 different people brought back so many Sunday memories at Cucos house. I woke up today to a heart full of sadness and happiness knowing what it represents. He will forever live on in our hearts.
