On the eve of the day that many celebrate as Christmas, which is literally Christ mass, a worshipping of Christ. There seems to be little involved in his life (if he actually existed at all) as there is this weird hodge-podge of strange traditions and observances, that continually evolves and mutates. Miracle children being born mixed with green trees being brought inside to ward off the darkest day of the year combined with saintly old men who give out free gifts and candy that somehow got fused with legends of Odin. Theres elves on shelves and certain movies watched about living snowmen and flying reindeer with red glowing noses. And all of it presumably started because this time of year for our ancestors was the darkest of all the 365 before them. Now we have electric power, and light is summoned simply by the flick of a switch. We worry not about nightly predators, but the unpaid bills that flood our inbox. It was in each other that we sought comfort during these dark times, friends and family celebrating the closeness and joy that each brought the other, the truest and best of all gifts. Still the darkness and cold take its toll and cabin fever is a very real worry for many even today, perhaps more so as we find modern conveniences freeing up more of our time to simply sit and do nothing. The darkness surrounds us and makes us feel alone, heavy and small. Regardless of what you believe or do not, now is a time when light is needed, small joys expressed. Remember that the things we buy each other are a hope for laughter and joy, for good moments to ward away the dark. To celebrate our kinships with other humans, and believe that life is worth living. We are all of us forged from the depths of stars, and with in us the energy of that light and warmth still resides. That is the source of magic that we all feel this time of year, because in this darkest of nights it shines the brightest. Feel it, kindle it and harness it. We are all passionate about something. The bakers bake, the crafters make, the musicians music make, the story tellers weave their tales. Honor your inner light my friends, let it shine and share it with others that you love. That is the heart of this night. That billions of people around the world come together and prove the world can be abundant, peaceful and harmonious despite outside circumstances. Revel in it, enjoy it, and embrace it. https://youtube/watch?v=DT1fA59oH7Q
