On the flip side of this, boys with sisters will be told you shouldnt be so much of a boy- as a boy means theyre rougher, more inclined to aggression and violence and that girls are delicate, so protect them and be careful. Children growing up dont need to be fed stereotypes. Everyone needs to be gentle, calm and reflective of how they treat people, regardless of gender, which only begins with parentage. Siblings need to kick back to each other as hard as they get, but they must also be taught the double standard of ascribing exclusive characteristics to one another. The principle in growing up, is if knocked hard, knock hard back, because sibling scrap. But the oddest thing about childhood is often how much separation occurs to stop the chaos of that scrapping, gender cliches are entrenched to keep one from being rougher because the other is defenceless and what really gets destroyed in the aftermath of parents finally peaceful calm, is the follow up discussion, the use of words, the balance of each side, and the need for forgiveness, which teaches us bold ways of confronting bias in our early years about gender equality. It starts with personal equality at home.
