On the issue of the Strange Fire conference (John MacArthur/Grace - TopicsExpress

On the issue of the Strange Fire conference (John MacArthur/Grace To You), specifically on how it deals with revelation, isnt Scripture sufficient? Certainly, the Spirit actively works through the Word, convicting, affirming, teaching, etc. That, however, is not continualist. The question is this: Does the Spirit still provide specific and direct inspiration/revelation, like that of the Bible? If you think so, you have by default impugned the sufficiency of Scripture. If Scripture is sufficient, how would a special word from the Lord be appropriate? If Scripture is sufficient, how can your special emotional privilege be admissible? If Scripture is all we need, how might a new word help in my family life? Isnt Scripture sufficient for everything? Name one sin that you might go through that Scripture doesnt address. Give me just one example of how a special, one-time revelation from Pastor so-in-so could help the body beyond what Scripture has already done perfectly. Conversely, if a special word from the Lord (regardless of what language) is appropriate, Scripture is insufficient. If a new word, bestowed on you by some new apostolic privilege unavailable to the common church folk, is helpful to my family, or to the church body whatsoever, Scripture is insufficient. If Scripture isnt sufficient for absolutely everything, then it is wholly insufficient. If Scripture has not perfectly addressed everything we need to know pertaining to Creation, the Fall, the Patriarchs, the Kingdom of Israel, the Prophets message about both historic Israel and the future Messiah, the virgin birth of Christ, His sinless earthly life, His substitutionary atonement, His resurrection, His ascension, His eventual return, eternity, judgement and hell, parenting, being a child, work, forgiveness, love, kindness, finances, and on and on and on, then Scripture is wholly insufficient, partially given to us by a fraud who claims to have given us enough, but rather lied to us in lieu of future 20th and 21st century apostolic messengers.
