On the last Sunday of the churchs liturgical year, what is now - TopicsExpress

On the last Sunday of the churchs liturgical year, what is now called Reign of Christ this coming Sunday, Trinity Church commemorates Totensonntag a kind of German Lutheran All Saints Day. We will stand and recall by name those saints who have gone on to the nearer presence of the Lord during this last year. In preparing the worship, the liturgy, and roll of names, I am moved each time by the loss that each person signifies, palpably, and the hope that we confess in Christ. It is sad and somber, yet points to that which we long for and a faith we live into. We will name 17 persons from our community, congregation, and wider church family. We proclaim these words with conviction: “O God, before whom generations rise and pass away, we praise you for all your servants who, having lived this life in faith, now live eternally with you.” “Give us faith to look beyond touch and sight, and in seeing that we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, enable us to run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Bring us at last to your eternal peace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”
