On the left is a fairly early tile - not super early because theres shading, a concept I didnt grasp until later, and it actually IS a tile (I think), so... after certification. On the right is one I finished a couple of days ago. Ive been an artist since I was about three. I did a lot of pen and ink work with those old technical pens, frequently houses and other buildings. Beginning in the mid-90s I really focused on mandalas, mainly in acrylic paint, although I did other art too. In 2007 our youngest was finishing high school and then going to El Salvador for a year to help teach English at a primary school. Our middle and eldest also had plans. So my husband and I decided we had a window of opportunity to do something interesting. We sold our house, sold a lot of our stuff, put other stuff into storage, and took off to China to teach English for two years. I know I know, Zentangle. Im getting there! While on the computer in China, researching mandalas, I happened upon a link to a zendala. No, not Zentangles zendala, that was a few years off. Fascinated, I clicked, and clicked another link and another, eventually ending up on a page dealing with Zentangle, quite possibly the Zentangle website but honestly I dont remember. What an immediate *CLICK*!!! I have always loved intricate detail, patterning, and drawing. Back home in Canada a few months later, and even though it seemed really costly, I just KNEW I had to go to a teacher certification seminar. Honestly, some of the best money Ive ever spent on anything. And, as luck would have it, although we didnt know each other beforehand, Laura Harms (you know, the Diva?) was at the same seminar! We both were certified in May 2010, CZT3.
