On the long trek up the winding cobbled path and steep granite - TopicsExpress

On the long trek up the winding cobbled path and steep granite steps to the castle on top of St Michaels Mount lies the Giants well. Its an old, old well with a tightly bolted wooden lid. Legend has it that many years ago Giants walked freely about the land of Cornwall. Cormoran was one such Giant. He lived on the Mount and often waded ashore to steal their livestock (he had a giant appetite!). Young Jack, a lad from the town of Marazion rowed across to the island, outwitted the Giant, and imprisoned him in the well. Some say that if you peer through the cracks in the granite slabs near to the wooden lid you may be unfortunate enough to glimpse a Giant eye peering back at you! Little Pete decide he would give that one a miss though and stayed a safe distance away with the Friends of Portheras Cove, who sent us this story and pictures.
