On the martyrdom day of Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, on 23 March 2014 an Art Workshop Against War on People – Images of Repression and Resistance was conducted on the JNU campus, New Delhi hosted by JNU Forum Against War on People. Well-known people’s artist Harpal Tyagi inaugurated the workshop with a few words and with the first brush strokes painting a portrait of Shahid Bhagat Singh. In the day long workshop nearly twenty young artists painted more than 30 paintings on the Operation Green Hunt depicting the ravages of War on the adivasi people in the Central and Eastern parts of India since 2009. Artists like Tabrez Ansari, Dhrupadi, Gopal and others drew paintings in acrylic colours. Professor Govind Prasad, School of arts and Esthetics, JNU attended the workshop. Harpal Taygi, veteran people’s painter enlivened the workshop teaching some of the fine strokes of the brush to the young and enthusiastic artists. Some images from the workshop:
