On the occasion of ones 15th wedding anniversary possibly one - TopicsExpress

On the occasion of ones 15th wedding anniversary possibly one should go with starched linen and fine dining. The Hungry Husband and I opted for blistered varnished and uber-cool instead. Ive always wanted to go to Cocos Cantina on Aucklands K-Rd and I wasnt disappointed. Its packed with cool looking people, noisy to the point of being chaotic and it serves food described as rustic Italian which is pretty much my favourite thing. We started with a mild soft goats cheese and olives plus a couple of glasses of chilled sherry which is my drink of the moment. The Hungry Husband opted for the T Bone steak which covered his entire plate, was tender and favour-some and served with a side of heavenly chunky fries (Id have to say these are not rustically Italian but really who cares). I went for the prawn linguine a chilli-hot, garlicky, oily pasta dish with lashing of tender Vanuatu prawns. Im going back for the spaghetti and meatballs once I come out of my carb coma. And for the buzzy vibe. But most especially for the staff who are pierced and tattooed and zipped in strange places but utterly professional. Never have orders been taken and food delivered to tables with such style. Cocos isnt a cheap-eat. Mains are $30-plus proposition which I thought steep for a pasta dish until I tasted it. Plus being there felt like being in London...or maybe Spain. I loved it. cocoscantina.co.nz
