On the occasion of our 20th Branch 458 Memorial Scholarship the 3 wonderful teachers who comprise our Scholarship Selection Committee awarded 2 winners for the 2nd year in a row. The 1st Place Winner will receive our 4 year $1,000 per year Scholarship to the college of choice, while our runner up will receive a $500 1 time scholarship. Over the past 20 years only 3 of our winners failed to complete the full scholarship. Our 2nd Winner is up for National Language Teacher of the Year this year. One has went on to became a doctor and another has risen high in the field of science after graduating with honors from Cornell University. We are very proud of our scholarship winners and of our members who have funded our scholarship strictly through donations and fund raising to the point we can now recognize two deserving students each year. We are proud of the 3 Teachers who year after year has done the yeomans in selecting our winner each year. Thanks go out to Barbara Loudermilk who has been with us since the beginning, but also to Meg Koerner who joined our selection committee several years ago and my friend from his long tenure as Labor Council secretary and a member of 2 unions the AFT and the UFCW, Lee Graham who despite recovering from a recent brain aneurism was able to be with the 2 other members of the committee as they made their selection this evening. It is always nice to report on something that helps boost a highly deserving high school senior on their way! Thanks to our Branch President David Miller for picking up Lee and delivering him to us and for our Scholarship Chair Steve Riggs for taking him home. The names of the 2 winners will be announced at our Regular Monthly Meeting in June! This is to allow for the winners schools to be notified so that they can be announced at the Awards Presentations at their respective schools!
