On the one hand you have outgoing Sen. Tom Coburn, characterizing the DHS as willfully hiding important data from Congress and the public, and costly mission creep that has it focused on things having little to do with public safety. On the other hand, you have a spokeswoman for the Department claiming that the southern border “is safer and more secure than at any time in our nation’s history,” and providing fact sheets pointing to a supposedly declining number of illegal entries. The undisputed fact is this: Over 700 miles of our southern border remain unsecured, and porous. Americans have repeatedly been promised a secure border since the 1980s and the first amnesty that was supposed to solve the illegal immigration problem. Its past time to give it to them.
