On the poker table, old age doesn’t matter. And today, it has been proven that even the not-so-young people can triumph against a game full of young men. Cliff Josephy is living proof of this concept. Despite competing in the 2013 World Series of Poker $3,000 Shootout event alongside a number of younger players, he still managed to outmatch them all, and earn himself a payday of almost $300,000, as well as a gold bracelet. This makes this his second gold bracelet winning throughout his career, the first one back at the 2005 WSOP in a $1,500 Seven-Card Stud tournament. This also makes Josephy the very first repeat bracelet winner so far of this 2013 series, as up until now, every bracelet winner in previous event had been first-time bracelet winners. While his live poker career isn’t as impressive as the others, the resident of New York shines in the online poker community, where his screen name, JohnnyBax, is regarded as a legend amongst most online poker players. Josephy’s claim to the gold wasn’t an easy one in the early stages of the tournament, as he had to make do with 250 chips during the opening rounds, but somehow battled back as he advanced to Round Two, and in an impressive feat, survived a tough table by defeating Dan O’Brien to advance to the final tables. And while in the final table, Josephy has to contend himself with several younger poker pros, including two-time bracelet winners Ryan Hughes and David “Bakes” Baker, single bracelet winner Max Steinberg, and accomplished pros like Tim West and Chris Klodnicki, an impressive final table lineup. Also present in the final table is Italian player Alessandro Longobardi, which makes him the fourth player in this year’s series to final table the very same event in two consecutive years, joining the ranks of Ryan Olisar (No Limit Hold’em Re-Entry event), George Danzer ($2,500 Omaha 8/Stud 8), and Greg Mueller ($2,500 Eight-Game). As for the event itself, it drew in a total of 477 players and generated a prize pool of $1,302,210. Aside from Dan O’Brien, several other professional poker players were sighted at this event and has advanced up to the second round, including Cherish Andrews (14th), Brandon Cantu (18th), film critic Richard Roeper (24th), Brock Parker (35th), Antonio Esfandiari (48th), and John Hennigan (59th). 2013 WORLD SERIES OF POKER: $3,000 SHOOTOUT – FINAL TABLE RESULTS 1.
