On the subject Ive been on recently - I decided I would google Taylor Swift to see what new music shes released recently as Im actually a fan of her music and many country pop acts like her. Shes just been on The X Factor with her new song Shake it Off. What do people think of this? I have to say now shes going the pop route Im going to miss her pop-country stuff... she was great at that, and i think a brilliant writer.. she also appealed to her young audience as well as an older audience because, i think her younger audience could relate to her honest writing and see her as an icon who writes about real subjects.. shame that shes changed her sound to be really poppy and Im hoping shell still keep a few country-pop numbers in the new album. Charlotte Church did this same thing, i thought she was just the most amazing classical singer, when she changed her style her audience changed with it. I always thought she excelled at the classical stuff, though i know its good to try different styles, and i think she did a great job of writing and performing her more poppy stuff. That said, Charlotte was a child star and so i think her priorities changed looking at her personal circumstances surrounding her music. I guess then, sometimes an artist is trying to appeal to a wider audience - but doesnt their identity as an artist becomes watered down unless they were known from the beginning to be an artist who covers lots of different styles and are known to be very diverse.. its never an easy decision to change style, I think Taylor has done this well, but some of her audience are going to miss the style theyve come to know and love.
