On the subject of patient advocacy...sort of... Tomorrow is the most important mid-term election in our history. We are on the verge of either elevating our democratic Republic to a higher level of fulfilling its promise as a beacon of light in the world of participatory politics, or we are about to plunge it into the dark despair of retrograde, fascist, jingoistic nightmare in which virtually all but the most wealthy will be an army of disenfranchised drones... I am drawn to share the comparison--for those of you convinced that both parties are the same and that your vote doesnt matter--between two politicians, both with military service, who are running in this election: The first is a young man named Seth Moulton, running for Congress in the 6th district of Massachusetts..he is a Democrat...he served in Iraq...he was awarded two medals--a Bronze Star and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation for valor. He never told the press about his decorations for valor...he never even told his parents about them...and he steadfastly refuses to bank on his commendations or his service to advance his political career.... Then there is Scott Brown who, like Joni I-Love-To-Castrate-Hogs Ernst, limited his service to desk-jockeying in National Guard units. Both of these GOP Wunderkind are only to happy to vomit--in Lindsey Graham fashion--stories about their glorious military exploits, mostly limited to dart games in the officers club... I dont know about you, but I prefer the quiet hero over the bellicose braggart any day...and I prefer the party that chooses to put him on the ticket. The patient looking to us for protection, for advocacy as a hoard of evil surgeons descend upon it to harvest its organs, is our homeland. The only thing it has to protect it is our vote. Dont fail it now.
