On the track at high noon in Texas in August, my favorite month of the year. Even the walk home along the Colorado river in downtown Austin was hot. About 100 degrees on the track. Today was Main Event Day goal pace interval workout on the track. My main event in Track & Field distance running is 1500m, about a football field short of 1 mile. Main Event Day is a standardized goal pace interval workout on the track that comes up 3 times each month, all year around usually on the 1rst, 5th, and 9th day of each month. Interval workout usually comprised of 4 repetitions, the durations of which gradually increase towards the full race distance over a period of months or years [ the number of reps come down as that happens]. My 1500m goal pace is 3:22 [current world record is 3:26]. 3:22 is about 54 seconds per lap, 3:36 mile pace.
