On the train from Vilnius to Minsk this evening, I met a couple of Belarusians who had business interests in Lithuania (My company is registered in Lithuania. This is perhaps a little bit about less bureaucracy, but it is mainly about paying less tax). I started chatting to one of these guys, and the Russian in the next seat joined in. The Russian and the Belarusian had a long conversation in Russian, which went on for most of the journey. The Belarusian apologised slightly to me, and said that they were discussing the situation in Russia, and Ukraine, and Belarus, and that Russians dont see these things the way we do. Do you think that fascism is on the rise in Europe? I dont. The conversation was not heated, but went on for a long time. (I really wished I could have understood Russian). At the end of the journey, everyone - Russian or Belarusian - wished me an enjoyable stay in this country.
