On the way to the Springfield Airport today Jane and I had some extra time so we stopped at Springfield Brewing Company where I had a couple of pale ales. On the way back through town after dropping her off to catch her plane I thought, You know, that was pretty strong beer. What if Im impaired? I certainly didnt want anyone to get hurt, so I pulled over and made a large cardboard sign: CAUTION! POSSIBLE DRUNK DRIVER and taped it to my windshield. I guess it worked because there was a lot of traffic in town and no other drivers pulled out in front of me or cut me off. And motorists werent the only ones who appreciated my concern. A couple of policemen standing on a street corner pointed at the sign and tried to wave me over-- I guess to commend my thoughtfulness-- but I really didnt have time to stop and I wasnt looking for praise. If my action saved one crash or fender-bender, that was my reward.
