On the way to the airport we stopped for a rather delicious meal - TopicsExpress

On the way to the airport we stopped for a rather delicious meal with a friend who told me about her difficulties with her son whos now 16 and wont study in the way that his mother would like him to. This is becoming a very common issue in India and Im quite familiar with what needs to be said. I usually let people know about my own early youth and speak to them of the generation gap that we experienced in those days. I dont usually quote Dylan your sons and your daughters are beyond your command, your old road is rapidly agin’, please get out of the new one if you cant lend your hand, for the times they are a-changin’”. However that is the sentiment that I communicated. Even ten years ago parents could pretty much rely on their authority to keep their children disciplined especially in regard to their studies. It just doesnt work anymore. Theyve got such a wide range of influences on them and at 15 or 16 regard themselves as free to do whatever they want - of course its a relatively few that think like that but a growing few. There is no possibility of forcing them by this stage and forcing seems to be always counterproductive and create the most unpleasant atmosphere in the home. After a quick chat with Amritdeep about many issues off we went to the airport and on to Nagpur…..
