On this 124th anniversary of the Wounded Knee Massacre (of Chief - TopicsExpress

On this 124th anniversary of the Wounded Knee Massacre (of Chief Big Foots band of Sioux, on their way to Pine Ridge) it probably doesnt seem particularly relevant to talk about Immigration issues... or the importance of military budgets to domestic prosperity... or transnational corporate personhood... or (G*D help us!) global warming... even though they ARE all tied together. This business of the President trying to find issues he can agree on in discussions with Republicans in Congress seems to be weighted heavily (by MSMedia, anyhow) on the area of foreign trade... and particularly the TPP proposals. To me, the back story here is the President being the point man for the fundraising efforts of Democrats in the 2016 election cycle. To please the so-called corporate Democrats, who inveigled money from Wall Street by means of the policies which Wall Street WANTED-- NAFTA, (or ANY trade agreement) welfare reform, elimination of Glass-Steagall, etc... they want the President to approve the TPP (and probably Keystone, and other business-friendly items). Theyd mostly also appreciate a continual muddling through on any global warming agenda... some feel good stuff that doesnt offend too much. These corpo-Democrats have probably convinced themselves that, without the BIG BUCKS for campaigns, they will be screwed... and so winning elections means more than any vestigial pretense of Idealism. While I agree that we have a ONE-PARTY system-- the Business Party-- with a management wing and a workers wing, the control of a philosophic outlook on how we reach and maintain Prosperity for the greatest number of citizens may not be the most important issue facing us, the American people. The projected parameters of endless growth and control of inflation and jobs for All are not worthy political goals... if it means that, ultimately, were screwing our posterity to be comfortable in the ways to which weve grown accustomed (&/or want That American Dream that we see being realized around us). I dont expect the President to cease working on the Wall Street money cow... but I AM going to write him, and ask that he at least consider a picture bigger than a Democratic WIN in the race for the White House in 2 years. ^..^
