On this 23rd day of Gratitude Month, I am singing about music. It is the language that all can communicate with whether or not we can understand the words that come out of anothers mouth. it is the first language of an infant, each sound is a note that eventually leads to an original song. Melody is the basis for the spoken word of Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and if you listen carefully enough, each tongue spoken through out the world. When you lose yourself in a world of strings and brass, it can cleanse your soul, brighten your heart, and magically transform your body as if a puppeteer is manipulating your movements. it has a way of connecting you to your surroundings, your dreams, to those around you, to the universe. It is not just the sounds of instruments, nor the notes coming out of ones mouth. Some of the most beautiful music ever composed is from Nature. The waves lapping against the shoreline, geese flapping their wings as they fly overhead. Winter winds blowing through the last stubborn leaves on the trees, rain beating on the roof of your safe shelter. The neighborhood comes alive when the dog choir joins in with the wailing sirens of passing fire trucks or the high squeal laughter of the children playing tag. Then there are the sweet quiet songs of a slumbering baby or the gentle snoring of an older dog nestled by your feet. Whatever music plays in your life, I hope you take the time to truly listen and feel, to appreciate what value it brings to your life and share it with those you care about.
