On this Day in Weather History..... *In 1831, a monstrous snowstorm raged from Georgia to Maine. Around 2 and a half feet buried parts of the northeast from Pennsylvania to Southern New England. *In 1964, a foot of snow buried Dallas while Fort Worth received 7.5 inches. *In 1987 A winter storm produced a total of 61 inches of snow at Rye Colorado, and wind gusts to 100 mph in Utah. The storm then spread heavy snow from the Texas panhandle to Indiana. Tulia Texas received 16 inches of snow, and up to 14 inches was reported in western Oklahoma. *In 1989, Eastern and Northwestern Wyoming were whip lashed by Chinook winds that reached 80 to 100 mph in many areas. Reports of damage were not available. *IN 2001...Snow spread across southwestern Kansas from west to east. The heaviest snowfall occurred south of a Larned to Hugoton line and north of a Meade to Macksville line. Six to 10 inches was common. Eleven inches was recorded near Elkhart, 15 inches in Johnson and 16 inches in Syracuse.
