On this Day in Weather History..... *In 1961, strong Santa Ana winds in California fanned the flames of the Brentwood and Bel Air fires. Many homes were destroyed. At 10 PM the Los Angeles Civic Center had a temperature of 74 degrees, with a dewpoint of 5 degrees. The relative humidity in Burbank was 3 percent on the 6th. This shows how extremely dry the air was, and how quickly fires can spread under these conditions. *In 1977 a slow moving storm produced 5 to 9 inch rains across northern Georgia causing the Toccoa Dam to burst. As the earthen dam collapsed the waters rushed through the Toccoa Falls Bible College killing 3 persons in the dorms. Thirty-eight persons perished at a trailer park along the stream
