On this Memorial Day weekend, I would like to deviate from the family picnic and outings to pay homage to those that gave the supreme sacrifice of their lives. To honor those who died in such places as Belleau Wood, Iwo Jima, Midway, Coral Sea, many islands in the Pacific, the Philippines, too numerous to recall those battle sites. The fields of France, Normandy,Italy, Africa, and many other Battle Sites with the Axis. In Korea..battles at Inchon, where freezing was probably as prominent as being killed in action. Obscure places in Viet Nam...Cua Viet to A Shau valley to Camp Eagle and the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Kuwait, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and the too many other places to recall them all. Those that died there did not die in vain. They served in preserving the style of life that we should love and cherish. So on this Memorial Day, as the parade passes by place your hand over your heart, tip your hat to the Red, White and Blue that leads that entourage and say thank you to those that have fallen before us.
