On this Sunday after weve all been in church and listened to the weekly message, ask yourself this question: Did Jesus intend for us to be Christians only one day a week and hire others to do OUR job the other six? You see, that is what we have come to expect from the modern church. We hire people who are our face to others. The Pastor is the one expected to pray in a crowd, the elders are the ones who are supposed to make certain the needy are taken care of. We dont concern ourselves with understanding scripture because church doctrine has taken care of that for us. Church has turned into a business, but this is nothing new. This present church model first began with the Pharisees over two thousand years ago and was used as the model by Constantine the Great over 17 centuries ago. But is that what Christ taught? When you threaten people with eternal damnation unless they pay up, that should be defined as extortion, not stewardship. Christ offered us a free gift. He then taught relationship with others. Neither of these cost anyone a penny. So why is it that more often than not anymore, our churches have become a place where were told that if we dont give even more of our money, God will not be happy and it may even reflect on whether we wind up in heaven or in hell? Ive posted this before, but given the atmosphere in our churches today (demanding even more money to build even more churches when these so-called leaders are well aware those monies are better spent feeding and educating those less fortunate in our respective communities), I believe it needs to be posted again. Please do yourself a favor and at least read the argument before dismissing it as trash. Then listen to the message from your pastor about building yet another church in cities already littered with abandoned churches, but needy people and make a decision as to which message is closer to that of Christs teaching. Thanks. Is the Church a Building or the People Within? Why Orthodoxy Has Allowed the Acquisition of Things to Supplant Christ.
