On this anniversary of the 911 attack, I was naturally in a sad, reflective mood. Then I got some very good news. I ran into the grandmother I had met before of a little girl born with terrible psoriasis. She was in agony all the time and, no one seemed able to help. At one point she was emergency airlifted to the Izaak Walton Killam but her parents were told there she would just have to learn to live with the pain. She had no social life because other children and their parents wouldnt go near her. When she tried to join other kids, they all ran away. The family even took her to a specialist in a Western province with no success. Finally a doctor in Moncton took on her case. He said he would keep her in hospital until he found some relief. To get to the point, now she is pain free and off all medications. She needs two treatments with ointments each day but they are over the counter items. Her parents had moved to Moncton to be near for all her treatments and now plan to come back. Her grandmother tells me she is, and always was, cheerful and loving and smart. She is not quite four. Knowing how excited and happy I was to learn she is no longer in constant torture and is living a normal life, I cannot really imagine how wonderful it must be for her and her family.
