On this date in 2009: Cliff Lee goes the distance, striking out 10 while allowing an unearned run on six hits as the Phillies take Game 1 of the World Series from the Yankees, 6-1. For the second straight year, Chase Utley drives in the first two runs of the series via the longball; this year it was a pair of solo shots off CC Sabathia (one in the third, one in the sixth). Those would turn out to be the only runs Lee needed, but Raul Ibanez provided some cushion with a two-run single in the eighth before Shane Victorino (single) and Ryan Howard (double) put it away with RBI hits in the ninth. A throwing error by Jimmy Rollins with one out in the bottom of the ninth cost Lee a shutout, but the lefty shrugged it off and got Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada swinging to finish off the gem
