On this date in Country Legends History... 1939 - Bill Monroe auditions for the Grand Ole Opry at the WSM Radio studios in downtown Nashville, performing Foggy Mountain Top, Mule Skinner Blues and Fire On The Mountain. He passes the audition and debuts five days later. 1956 - Dwight Yoakam is born in Pikeville, Kentucky. With an edgy vocal style and a proclivity for roots music, he becomes one of countrys most creative forces, augmenting such iconic hits as Honky Tonk Man, Aint That Lonely Yet and Fast As You with a side career as an actor. 1978 - Tanya Tuckers album, TNT, was released. 1978- Country musician Mother Maybelle Carter died at age 69. (Her daughter was June Carter Cash.) 1983 - Willie Nelsons album, Without A Song, was released. 1992 - Roy Acuff performs on both shows at the Grand Ole Opry. It proves to be his final appearance on the program. 1993 - George Strait found the summit of the Billboard chart with Easy Come, Easy Go. 1995 - Reba McEntires Ring On Her Finger, Time On Her Hands was released. 1996 - Buck Owens opens his Crystal Palace, a club in Bakersfield, California. 2004 - George Straits I Hate Everything went number one on the Billboard chart.
