On this date in Country Legends history... 1947 - Hank Williams wrote I Saw the Light. 1979 - The Dukes Of Hazzard debuts on CBS, starring John Schneider, as Bo Duke; Tom Wopat, as Luke Duke; and Waylon Jennings, as The Balladeer. Jennings sings the theme song, Good Ol Boys. 1982 - Kenny Rogers picks up three pop and country trophies at the American Music Awards. Country awards also go to Willie Nelson, Barbara Mandrell, Anne Murray and The Oak Ridge Boys. 1988 - Randy Travis wins four awards, paced by Forever And Ever, Amen, at the 15th annual American Music Awards. 1992 - Emmylou Harris joins the Grand Ole Opry. 1997 - Mary Chapin Carpenter performs Down At The Twist And Shout with BeauSoleil during the pre-game show for Super Bowl XXXI at the Superdome in New Orleans. Green Bay beats New England, 35-21. 2001 - Reba McEntire takes over as Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun at Broadways Marquis Theatre. Tom Wopat is already a regular in the production.
