On this date in history, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was released into theaters. I couldnt fully appreciate it back then, what with being 14. However, rewatching it last night, I found it to hold up amazingly, speaking as I have conflicting views on Michel Gondry as an artist. I wrote this piece in which I try to encapsulate everything that makes it great, though at 800 word count, I had to edit out over 180 words. That was hard. Also, the film gets a lot more points on the grounds that there is a Rain Dogs reference in there. Also, I talk at length about Jon Brions score and how it shaped the modern score. I am serious. Listen to it and then The Social Network or Her. Theyre uncanny in some ways. Also, there are entire portions that remind me of early Alf Cluasen music for The Simpsons. Check it out and please share your thoughts on the film. It is one that I feel influenced my generation in particularly in a great way.
