On this day - 31st January, 1660 - Marie Le Dain was the last person to be executed for witchcraft in the Channel Islands. She was sentenced on this date after being found guilty by 24 good people from her home parish of St.Ouen. 1971 - The first Jersey resident to receive a kidney transplant did so on this day. A kidney had become available at lunch time and by 3 oclock the unidentified woman was on her way to London aboard a specially chartered Aurigny plane. By 7 pm she was on the operating table at St.Marys Hospital and by 10 pm the surgery was completed. Prior to the transplant, the woman had had to travel to London twice a week for dialysis until the Islands first kidney machine had been bought by a local company for her use.
