On this day, 100 years ago, a shot was fired that had devastating repercussions for millions of people. Known as The Shot Heard Around the World it heralded the end of Archduke Franz Ferdinands life at the hands of Gavrilo Princip. That one act was the catalyst for 5 years of bloodshed in what was called The Great War. We know it now as The First World War. Approximately 9,911,000 were declared Killed In Action, and 7,750,000 men were declared Missing In Action. That is not including civilian losses. The Long, Long Trail covers the three fictional lives touched by the war, in the hopes of reminding everyone that none of those lives in the above counts were merely numbers. They werent statistics, faceless or nameless but living, breathing people with hopes, loves and lives. While its not Remembrance Day, it feels appropriate to mention them today 100 years from the day that irrevocably changed the paths of those millions. Apologies for the sombre post. I am not trying to use this occasion as a sales point, but to mark an occasion that made a dramatic impact upon the world.
